So in efforts to show people who we are we decided to create a music video. This was such an interesting project and something that I don’t think anyone in Clocks and Clouds has done to this level. We used the genius of Dan and Kita Rollins and their company LiveWire Films to produce this epic adventure. I want to come out right now and share that I wasn’t too heavily involved in the production of this video and that Derek Powers knows all the in’s and out’s as he did all the planning with Team Rollins. I wanted to simply write and share my point of view and the great time we had making the music video. Hopefully Derek will post something with his perspective of the video.
The first step was I had to finish the recording of piece we’re shooting. I recorded for 3 days straight and got everything good enough to shoot a video against. Hopefully soon I will post something about the recording process, but another day another hour.
When we got to the location I will be perfectly honest to say that I was a bit concerned about how they were going to create the right mood with the location they choose. It was a rather uninteresting basement that had boxes and other items that we did not plan on having in the video. We worked for 4 hours getting the room set up and all the sudden the pieces started coming together and I saw the vision come to life. I still can’t believe how this boring, and somewhat ugly basement, turned into the setting that will become our music video.
Dan and Kita and their crew were amazing. They had cranes flying in our face and lights flashing on and off during all our special hits in the songs. We performed the song a couple dozen times with Dan and Kita getting different shots that they wanted. In total they said they would have around 8 hours worth of video that he’ll need to edit down to 4 minutes. I wouldn’t want to be the guy who has to figure out which 4 minutes are the best and in what order. However I have all the confidence in the world that LiveWire Films will get us the product that best fits our vision.
My next thought is I’m sure you’re wondering what this music video is going to look like. First and foremost, this music video is not trying to tell a story or have us in 100 different sets with different crazy things happening around us. Our vision is to show us in our element, as performers. We just wanted to show what we look like performing and really how one can rock out on a violin and cello. When I share what our band is they don’t have a clue as to what it looks or sounds like. We felt as a band we needed an easy way to accomplish this. We don’t want someone to imagine something that’s not the reality. LiveWire Films was excited about this vision and I know they will get us the product we most want.
The video itself won’t come out for a couple of months, but wanted to write something now as my mind is still fresh. Someday I’ll post some pictures of the day. I know they even had a time lapse going with a camera so they could see the progress we made over the 8 hours of work. I’m so excited for this video and so thankful for Dan and Kita Rollins and Derek and everyone else for putting everything together.
